Glass fabrics for thermal and electrical insulation

Industrial steam pipe and valve wrapped in woven thermal insulation blankets

JPS woven glass fabrics support insulation in power generation and other high-temperature environments. Fiberglass reinforcement contributes electrical separation, mechanical strength, and thermal performance to tapes, coated mats, and blankets. Materials are selected for the equipment’s operating conditions and for the coating or resin used in the finished industrial insulation system.

Insulation fabric capabilities

Thermal management

Reinforcement for blankets and barriers used to control heat transfer.

Electrical insulation

Glass fabrics for insulation around energized equipment and conductors.

Motor and generator tapes

Low-thickness, high-strength glass reinforcement for mica-backed insulation.

Coating compatibility

Finishes for mica, ceramics, rubber, silicone, and thermoplastics.

Power and insulation applications

Electrical tapes and coated mats

Fiberglass reinforcement supports insulation tapes and silicone-coated mats used with generators, transformers, switchgear, bus bars, and cable systems.

Heat management

Thermal blankets help limit heat loss; barriers and reflectors help shield sensitive components from elevated temperatures.

Fabric and coating selection

JPS develops finish chemistries for insulation coatings and can tailor bonding to films, foils, and application-specific manufacturing requirements.

Which fabrics go where

White woven glass-fiber reinforcement with a satin weave.

Glass backing in electrical insulation

Low-thickness glass fabric reinforces mica-backed tapes used around motor and generator components. Glass also supports insulation around transformers, switches, and cables.

Thin white glass substrate fabric with a fine plain-weave grid.

Reinforcement beneath the coating

Woven glass forms the supporting layer in coated mats, thermal blankets, and bonded insulation. The finish must work with the mica, silicone, ceramic, film, or foil system and its operating conditions.

White fused-silica reinforcement fabric with a fine plain weave.

Quartz for demanding thermal designs

Pure silica fabrics provide a reinforcement option for high-temperature insulation and heat-shield designs. JPS can review the fabric and finish against the thermal and processing requirements.
